About twenty years ago, David agreed to let a co-worker put a beehive on the family farm. He didn't plan to become a beekeeper — but when life kept drawing him back to the hive, something unexpected happened. He fell in love with the science of bees.
He began researching bee biology and attending workshops at The Ohio State University Agricultural Campus. Beyond the science, he discovered something deeper: tending the bees gave him time to reflect. He began to see how connected the bees' world is to ours — how changes in our environment affect them, and how the chemicals we use affect us all.
That realization changed everything. If we could make natural skin care and hair products using honey, beeswax, propolis, and other ingredients that are good for us and our world — why wouldn't we?
That question became Beessential.
