4 Vital Reasons for Using Natural Products

December 19, 2019 2 min read

Natural Products are a wonderful way to treat your body to ‘clean-living.’

Natural products are typically made from vegetable and plant-derived materials, which are known to improve the appearance of skin and hair while helping with your hygiene.

1.) Natural Products Can Be Gentle on Skin

Natural products often contain gentle materials, like Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Honey, which are known to be gentle on skin, and aid in retaining its moisture.

Many products contain sulfates, which can dry out skin- and possibly even lead to irritation or a breakout.

Sulfates belong to a class of detergents known as ‘surfactants.’ A surfactant is designed to separate molecules. It is used in many soaps, shampoos and laundry detergents to remove dirt. These same surfactants, sources say, can cause extreme moisture-loss for skin.

According to SLSFree.net, this surfactant is: “So effective and so inexpensive is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate that it’s found in a number of industrial cleaning agents such as engine degreaser and industrial strength detergents. It’s also widely used as a skin irritant when testing products used to heal skin conditions.”

2.) Natural Product Usually Means Eco-Friendly, Too

Naturally what you put on you in the shower goes down the drain, and back into the environment. If you are using a soap or detergent with a lot of chemicals, it makes sense that a lot of those chemicals will be put back into our environment.

“Products made from conventionally produced ingredients can have a negative environmental impact. The manufacturing of chemical-heavy health and beauty products puts those chemicals, and many more, into the air and water, and even more go down your drain in your own home,” writes Overstock.com.

3.) There Are No Parabens

Parabens are a class of preservative. Some studies indicate parabens may cause vulnerability to cancer; particularly in breast tissue. While studies are still being done to determine whether or not this information is conclusive, it might not hurt to start using a safe alternative to preservatives; such as grapefruit seed or rosemary extract. Both act as a natural preservative.

4.) Fragrances Can Cause Headaches

Just like essential oils and natural fragrances are said to promote certain feelings, artificial fragrances can end up having a negative effect.

“The effect is that you have a chemical to cover up another chemical, and all those chemical smells can cause headaches in many people,” says Overstock.com “Natural health and beauty products smell like their natural ingredients, not a cocktail of chemicals. Natural health and beauty products scented with natural essential oils can even provide aromatherapy.”
